    Anti-Ragging Committee

    Anti-Ragging Committee

    Introduction
Ragging is a deadly practice among the students of Higher Education Institutions. UGC had recommended having a committee in every institution to deal with the issues related to ragging. So, Prasannadeb Women’s College, Jalpaiguri formed an Anti–Ragging Cell as per the guidelines of UGC Regulations, 2009. The college confirms a ragging-free campus including the Girl’s Hostel as the hostel is an extended part of the college. The cell has taken all the necessary steps to prevent ragging among the students. The focus of the cell is to introduce zero tolerance for the menace of ragging. The Anti-Ragging squad also actively takes part in this venture.

    Activities:
Crime like ragging only be prevented if the students of the institution become conscious of it and can make a difference. Considering this fact, the cell members met the students of every department and distributed leaflets with proper explanations. The cell also launched a publicity campaign against ragging by hanging posters on the college and hostel premises. The institution arranged a separate Hostel block for the safety of newcomers and to have special vigilance.

    Objectives
    1. Create a clear view to identify an action as ragging amongst students.
    2. Break the glass ceiling of the students to stand against the crime.
    3. Help the students to speak, protest, and stand strongly against ragging.
    4. Inform the students about the necessary steps to be taken to fight against ragging. Teach them healthy values to avoid ragging.
    5. Teach them how to complain to the cell after being ragged.
    6. Make the students alert about the administrative actions that would be taken by the institution if anybody is identified as committing the crime.
    7. Spread a message that no action of ragging would be tolerated.
    8. Action should be taken immediately and accordingly on the grievance related to ragging.
    9. Be updated about the rules and regulations of UGC and make the students aware of them as “Stop Ragging” and “Ragging free campus” is the utmost aim of the cell.
